I have been to music festivals all over the world, from Europe to India to Central Asia. Most of them promise the same thing. Big lineups, great energy, and an unforgettable experience.
Sick New World (SNW) in Las Vegas takes that idea and pushes it to the limit!
Around 65,000 people. Dozens of incredible bands like Korn, System of a Down, Evanescence, and Marilyn Manson. All in one day.
I flew in to experience it myself and find out if it is actually worth it, or still a mess like people have said in previous years.
Here is everything you need to know before you go to Sick New World!
What is Sick New World?
Sick New World is a one day heavy music festival in Las Vegas, and as of 2026 Texas also, focused on:
- Nu metal
- Industrial
- Metalcore
- Alternative and early 2000s bands
The lineup is the main draw. It is packed with bands you would normally have to see across multiple tours or festivals.
The catch is simple. Everything happens in one day. That is what makes it exciting, and also what creates most of the problems.
Who is this festival for?
This is where most people get it wrong.
This festival is for you if:
- You like multiple bands on the lineup
- You are into heavy or alternative music
- You can handle crowds and long days
This festival is not for you if:
- You are going for one or two bands
- You do not like packed environments
- You want a relaxed experience (well, it is actually possible if you can afford $1,850)
If you fall into the second group, you are probably not going to enjoy it.
When is the SNW lineup announced?
Sick New World has been pretty consistent with when it reveals its lineup. Expect the announcement in mid-October each year.
Where to buy tickets?
General admission is expensive at $369. VIP is significantly more at $695. The earlier you book tickets the more you save, so keep an eye on the festival’s social media to find out when tickets go on sale.
Tickets are sold through Sick New World’s website and ticket resellers.
The tickets aren’t actually paper, or even digital! They’re wrist bands that you’ll need to get sent home or pick up from the box office the day before the show, or on the day itself.
So be very careful when buying resale tickets because you have to trust that person to FedEx an original wrist band to you!
Hotels in Las Vegas also increase in price during the event.
But it makes sense financially if you are there for a large part of the lineup.
It does not make sense if you are going for one or two bands.
You need to treat this as a full day experience to get value out of it.
What does the VIP ticket include?
VIP tickets at Sick New World give you access to dedicated viewing areas, shorter lines for bars and restrooms, and generally more breathing room earlier in the day.
The biggest advantage is at the smaller stages, where a large portion of the viewing area is reserved for VIP, making it far easier to get close to the stage without fighting through the crowd.
On the main stages, though, that advantage drops off significantly.
Once the big acts come on in the evening, the VIP sections fill up fast and can feel just as packed as general admission, so you don’t really get the same level of comfort you might expect for the higher price.
What’s available at the festival?
The layout
There are multiple stages spread across the grounds. Some are a decent walk apart.
You will spend a lot of the day moving between sets.
Event management
The stages all ran according to the schedule which was released a few weeks before the gig, then updated 4 days out.
The only hiccup I saw was that Ministry got kicked off the stage because they wasted 5 minutes setting up.
There’s also a festival app for Android and iPhone which will alert you 15 minutes before bands you want to see hit the stage.
The crowd
This is one of the defining parts of the festival. It is big!
Around 65,000 people attend. Popular sets get packed. Moving between stages can take time.
It is not out of control, but it can feel overwhelming if you are not used to it.
How much is food & drink?
There are plenty of food stalls, bars, and merch areas. But the prices are crazy! Beers cost $20, energy drink and vodka $21.50, soda $6, and electrolyte drink $7.
Food is likewise expensive but the two meals I had – a cheese, bacon, and jam toasted sandwich, and a wood fire pepperoni pizza – both of which were tasty and fresh. They both cost $20 and the serving size was plenty.
Lines get long during peak times. Prices are what you would expect from a major US festival.
Eating earlier in the day helps avoid the worst of the queues.
Sound & stage quality
This has been a major complaint in previous years.
From what I experienced, it depends on where you stand. Try be in front of the soundboard or in line with of one of the speaker stacks for the best sound.
If the sound is off, move. Being in the right spot makes a big difference.
What to bring
A few simple things make a big difference:
- Drink bottle (water is free!)
- Portable charger
- Earplugs
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Sunscreen
- ORS powder to put in water to rehydrate
Do not overpack. You will be carrying everything all day.
Should you attend?
Sick New World is better than some of the criticism suggests, but it is not perfect.
If you like the lineup, plan your day properly, and go in with realistic expectations, you will have a great time.
If you expect everything to run smoothly and want a relaxed experience, this is not the right festival.
